Best South American Restaurants - Glasgow

Welcome back! In this blogpost I will explore some of the best South American cuisine that Glasgow has to offer. These vibrant, yet affordable independent restaurants are definitely worth a visit!

Mezcal serves up contemporary Mexican-inspired street food and cocktails in the centre of the city. Located on Hope Street, this lively setting is great for large groups or a more intimate catch-up. This restaurant definitely has a fun atmosphere, with colourful neon signs decorating the walls and upbeat music playing throughout.

Mezcal is an alcoholic spirit, originating from Mexico and is made from distilling agave. So, as you may expect, the cocktails are definitely worth talking about! Their wide selection of margarita flavours can be made with either tequila or mezcal, and the mango and basil margarita is a standout flavour combination, for sure!

However, the food is the real star of the show! The flavour combinations are well thought out amongst the wide range of tacos, quesadillas and burritos available. Some tortilla chips and guac for the table, are also an essential! For those spice seekers, there is also a wide selection of hot sauces, to add that fiery kick.

El Jefe’s is a Mexican Tequila & Taqueria bar, located in both Finnieston and Giffnock. This restaurant is somewhere that’s always busy, so booking a table is the best move! The atmosphere is bustling, and the live Mexican band really adds to this.

This eatery offers all the classic Mexican favourites, as well as a great selection of ‘Pequenos’, which are small plates that are perfect for sharing! The watermelon, avocado & feta salad pequeno, adds the ideal touch of freshness to any dish. While the El Jefe’s patatas bravas are not one to miss!

The restaurant also has a great selection of cocktails, the burnt pineapple and sage margarita is a favourite of mine. The frozen margaritas are also great, with the flavour selection changing regularly.

El Jefe’s also do a Mexican take on a Sunday Roast, and this is a must try! With a choice of a chateaubriand, roast chicken or lamb shank, as well as all the traditional sides, with an added Mexican twist.

These local Mexican restaurants are both affordable and authentic, and are a must visit!
